spring break at the cabin: day one

We're spending our Spring Break in California this year.
We invited our friends to come with us while we stay at the cabin for a few days.

When we finally made it to the cabin (gotta figure out a way to make this trip shorter. Private jet, maybe?)
we got settled in and watched General Conference together.
Kent and I cuddled on the couch while the kids played memory with Old Maid cards.  Or tried to. Ellie's not super great at following game rules yet.

Then our friends arrived. The kids all ran outside to play.
It's a fantastic place for them. It's like camping (dirt! pine trees! rocks! sticks!) but we get to stay in a beautiful and comfortable cabin.
See? Now this is the life.

Their little boy, August, is a darling and hilarious mud-puddle magnet.

There's even a "medium tub" for them to play in!
(Nick doesn't like hot water, so he insists it isn't a "hot" tub)
He has also gone back and forth between insisting that we call him "just Nick" and his full name-first middle last.  It's either the nickname or the full thing. I guess he's tired of "Nicholas" alone.

Ellie became a raging Hangry Monster who also happened to miss her nap, so we put her to bed early and the rest of us went outside to start a bonfire and roast marshmallows.

This place. It's cozy, beautiful, perfect. It's going to be a good week.
